Whatever has happened to the Morgan Lady Trojans in terms of establishing a deadly perimeter attack and suffocating defense is working.

Morgan [5-11, 3-1 Region 13] is now in the thick of the title picture after dispatching Union 65-51 on the road, Jan. 16.

The Lady Trojans went up six points after one quarter at 12-6 and extended their lead to 33-22 at the half. They then rode that bunch of horses all over homestanding Union in a romp.

Keira Brewer led the way with 15 points, while Eva Birkeland had 14 on the strength of three triples. Kaydence Wardell added 10 for Morgan, who also got nine from Abby Titus and five apiece from Leah Birkeland and new addition Brekyn. Kamry Wardell and Ashley Burt scored two points and Audrey Fisher one.

That balance on both ends of the floor, that run-n-gun that head coach Sterling Mack has been preaching to his kids was plainly evident in the Lady Trojans next game at South Summit, Jan. 18.

Once again, Morgan got out to a six-point advantage after one quarter. But this time the Lady Trojans roared out to a 37-21 lead by halftime and then downshifted for the rest of the game, resulting in a 70-49 victory at South Summit.

Abby Titus scored a season-high 21 points for Morgan, while Leah Birkeland had 11 on two threes. Ashlyn Noss dropped in 10 points and Keira Brewer eight. Alexis Burt scored seven points while Kaydence Wardell had six for a Lady Trojans squad that got at least one successful three-point shot from five different players. Eva Birkeland added five and Makayla Williams, two.

Next up for the Lady Trojans is a game at Ben Lomond [Jan. 23] followed by a game back at home against Ogden on Jan. 25. λ
