Swimmers compete at Ben Lomond and Ogden

Morgan’s swim team competed in two meets last week and continued to improve and set personal records as they build toward Region and State. Tuesday, Jan. 16 they swam against Ben Lomond, St. Joseph, and Grantsville at Ben Lomond’s pool, and Friday, Jan. 19, they traveled to compete against the Ogden, Fremont, and Rowland Hall at Ogden's pool.

The Trojans set 17 personal records (PRs) at the Ben Lomond meet and won five of the relay events. Tessa Smith, Brielle Sill, Lizzy Bess, and Brooke Williford won the Girls 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay. Connor Smith, Elijah Pfeifer, Gerrit Noorda, and Connelly Breinholt won the Boys 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay while Noorda, Axel Rollins, Kaison Berry, and  Pfeifer won the 400 Freestyle Relay.

Individually, Bode Johnson won the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke. Bess won the 200 Individual Medley, and Williford won the 50 Freestyle.

Daxin Witte dropped another seven seconds off his 200 Freestyle and leads the team with 16 PRs this season. Brandon Lindley dropped 18 seconds off his 500 Freestyle, and Connelly Breinholt dropped nine seconds off his 100 Breaststroke and is now state-ranked in all eight events.

In their final regular season meet of the year,  Morgan traveled to Ogden Friday, Jan. 19,  to take on Ogden, Fremont, and Roland Hall. Another 16 personal records fell at the meet as hard work kept paying off for the Trojan swimmers.

In an exciting race, Noorda won the 200 yd freestyle event and got within 0.14 seconds of breaking the school record. Bess won the 100 yd breaststroke event.

After setting two PRs at the Ogden meet, Witte tallied 18 PRs for the season and continues to lead the team in PRs this season. Mara Lewis dropped 13 seconds off her 200 yd Individual Medley, and  Breinholt dropped three seconds off his 100 butterfly. Rollins dropped five seconds off his 100-yard breaststroke.

Region Championships will be held Feb. 1, 2024 at the Wasatch Aquatic Center in Heber City starting at 10 am. State will be held at BYU, Friday, Feb. 16-17, 2024. λ
