MHS grapplers down North Summit 66-6

Morgan opened their wrestling season with a dual against the North Summit Braves Tuesday, Nov. 21. The Trojans overpowered their neighbors to the southeast, 66-6. In the early season match-up, Morgan dominated from start to finish.
Both teams opened with a forfeit at 106 pounds before Carter Wardell (113) earned the 8-2 victory by decision over Coutler Ferry. At 120 pounds, Huntley Gale tallied points for the forfeit while Ryler Jorgensen (126) pinned Whitney Oldham as the third period ended (5:57). The 132-pound match between Morgan’s Korbin Kilgore and North Summit’s Cael Blonquist went into overtime, and Kilgore earned the 6-4 sudden victory win!
Luke Woolsey (138) and Hyrum McKonkie (144) quickly pinned their opponents Cash Cylvick (1:34) and Ethan Joiner (1:03) before Drew Korth took a forfeit at 150 pounds. Skyler Crowther (157) earned a victory by fall over Jaymon Bailey in 2:30, and Joseph Belinski (165) pinned Koda Tomiko in just under two minutes (1:57).
At 175 pounds, the Braves’ Jack Wood earned North Summit’s only points in the dual with a pin over Tagg Rich as the third period opened (4:15). Zak Sargent claimed a win of with a 1:08-pin over Ben Peck at 190. Treyson Rich (215) took the final forfeit of the night before Lane Henderson pinned Anthony Villicana in 36 seconds!
Morgan hosted Ridgeline Thursday evening in a dual and will compete in the prestigious Millard Ironman Tournament Dec. 1-2 in Fillmore, Utah. Top teams from throughout the state will be competing for early-season bragging rights.
Morgan will host a dual against the 2023 6A State Champions Layton Thursday, Dec. 7 with varsity at 7 p.m. and JV at 5:30. The Trojans’ other home dual this month will be Dec.20 at 5:30 for both varsity and JV. They will be wrestling Region 13 opponent Union.λ
