Morgan Bantams win Ute Conference football title

There’s a state championship team in Morgan – the eighth grade football team that won the Bantam Division title in the Ute Football Conference last Saturday.

Morgan defeated previously unbeaten Mountain Ridge 25-19 to take home the title in a game played at Brighton High School. Coach Matt Larsen said the Trojans had captured titles in a lower-age conference for the past two seasons before moving up to the Ute Conference this year. The Ute Conference has 91 teams statewide, and Morgan proved the best of them all.

The Trojans’ march to the championship included wins over Corner Canyon, Syracuse, Hunter and then Mountain Ridge in the final. Morgan was seeded sixth entering the playoffs.

Members of the championship team are Jaxon Allen, Bronson Ball, Hyrum Brooks, Zack Galbraith, Cooper Giles, Korbyn Heiner, Rhett Larsen, Cole Miller, Easton Miller, Eli Mortensen, Bridger Neuenschwander, William Dash, Jaxson Pierce, Samuel Rose, Wyatt Sparrow, Ty Steel, Tyson Sydenham, George Thurston, Korver Toone, Lawson Walker, Kaison Workman and Camden Zack. Morgan coaches are Matt Larsen, Nate Larsen, Mac Thurston, Scott Mortenson, Jason Ball and Preston Steele. λ
