Boys Golf celebrates Region Championship, prepares for state

After winning the Region 13 golf championship, Morgan’s golf team played at the 3A State Championships, Wednesday and Thursday.  Results will be available next week. The Trojans were ranked #1 in 3A headed into the tournament. Coach Dennis Peterson was excited about his team's chances, but realistic. “We’re ranked number one, but there are five teams that can win the championship.”


Girls Soccer No. 4 seed for state, honors seniors

Oct. 3, 2023 Morgan’s four seniors played their last regular season home game. They were honored by their teammates, coaches, families and fans. The seniors, many of whom are four-year players, include goalie Miya Turner, Kenzie Kendall, Ashlyn Noss, and Kaydence Wardell.

In their final game, Morgan scored five goals to Ben Lomond’s 0.  Lacie Poll scored the hat trick and added two assists, touching the ball on each of the five goals. Kendall Petersen and Ashlyn Noss each added a goal while Saige Jones, Emma Toone and Macie Burton tallied assists. Turner registered four saves and earned the shutout.                            

The next day, the 3A State Tournament RPI rankings were revealed and the Trojans earned a No. 4 seed and will compete in the opposite side of the bracket from Ogden. They hosted No. 13 North Sanpete Wednesday, Oct. 11 at home in the second round of the playoffs. The winner of the game will advance to the quarterfinals. Quarterfinal games will be played at home sites, Saturday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.



Girls volleyball team downs Grantsville 3-0, Green Canyon Tournament

The Trojans swept the Cowboys 3-0 last Tuesday in Grantsville before traveling to Cache Valley Friday and Saturday for the Green Canyon Tournament. At the tournament, Morgan went 4-2 dropping games to Farmington and Pocatello, Idaho and tallying wins over Delta, American Fork, Murray and Lehi.

Against Grantsville, Morgan started slowly in the first game allowing the Cowboys to hang around, but eventually they pulled ahead and got the  25-22 win. In the second game, it remained close at first, and then Morgan took the momentum and the game 25-20. They carried their momentum into the third set and won handily, 25-15.

Tuesday, Oct. 10, the Trojans celebrated their seniors as they played a final game in the high school gym. Seniors on the 2023 team include Kamryn Randall, Alyvia Jaffa, Tori Smith, Hadlee Goode, and Hadley Ovard. Morgan will play their final regular season game Oct. 17 at Ogden. Final RPI and the bracket reveal for the state tournament will be posted Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. The tournament will take place Oct. 25-26 at UVU.

Divisional Races

Morgan competed at the first round of the State Championships (Divisionals) on Oct. 10 at Lakeside Park in Orem.  The top teams and individual times at divisionals will advance to the state race that will be held at the Rose Park Complex on Oct. 24. λ
