Morgan City’s power department foreman Clark Crook was recently named Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) Employee of the Year. UAMPS is a nonprofit organization made up of 50 municipal power providers from Utah, Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming. He was nominated for the award by City Manager Ty Bailey.

Crook has more than 27 years of experience in the power industry. Prior to joining Morgan City’s staff a year ago, he spent more than 10 years as Salem City’s power superintendent. He was recognized Dec. 12 at the UAMPS annual conference in Salt Lake City.

“Beyond his job description, in the absence of a public works director he stepped into the role seamlessly showcasing versatility and dedication,” the award presenter said that evening, reading from the nomination. “He has taken on responsibility for their public works facilities, managed a grant to put backup generators at Morgan’s critical buildings, helped with very challenging personnel issues, taken on fleet management, oversaw the remodel of the public works shop, cleaned up and helped surplus old equipment and served as the alternate representative for amps…Clark's commitment to going above and beyond not only enhances the operational image of Morgan's power department but also sets an exemplary standard for his colleagues. He is the team member who consistently raises the bar inspiring others to strive for excellence.”

On Jan. 9 at a city council meeting, Mayor Steve Gale praised Crook and thanked him for his service before presenting him with the UAMPS plaque.

Afterward Crook thanked Gale, members of the city council, and Bailey for their support, something he said had been lacking in some of his previous positions.

“None of this would have happened really nor would we be here had not you guys had the idea to go forward with your power system and be able to support it the way you have,” he said. “In my other job, I had to beg and plead to get substation equipment and Ty says, ‘Just get it done.’  You know we rebuilt substations and got necessary equipment that helps that reliability so that so when you flip the switch it [works]. The struggles that I had in other entities aren't ones that we've had to backlog with here, so you ought to be commended for that.”

“You guys have got some wonderful leadership here and you’ve got great employees and Ty does an awesome job leading us,” he added.

City council members also commended Crook for his efforts.

“Well done Clark and congratulations and thank you Ty for making the nomination too,” Dave Alexander said. “It was well deserved and good recognition.”

“I appreciate you taking some time to answer some of my silly questions,” Tony London said. “I know they’re probably pretty stupid questions but you're very patient in answering those questions.”λ
