In the spirit of the holiday season, Jaime Weeter, a Morgan Mom and the Owner of Olive Ave – Women’s Clothing Boutique introduced the "Heart of Our Hometown" awards to the community. This heartwarming initiative aims to honor individuals and businesses within the Morgan community who have had a profound and positive impact on the lives of residents, celebrating the unsung heroes who exemplify Christ-like behavior in their everyday actions.

From Nov. 13 to Nov. 25 residents of Morgan Valley were invited to participate in the "Heart of Our Hometown" awards by nominating individuals or businesses that they believe have made a significant difference in our community. After anonymous nominations were made, an impartial committee then picked five individuals who embody the spirit of giving, compassion, and selflessness.

For five days, starting on Dec. 11, the “Heart of Our Hometown” awards were presented and then announced via social media with a spotlight and compliments from those who nominated those who won.

The first “Heart of Hometown” winner was, Susana Chard also known at Morgan Elementary School as Abuela Susy. Chard consistently shows up wherever there is a need, contributing in any way possible. Her impact extends across various community organizations, businesses, and notably at work within the Morgan School District where “she acts as an angel, caring for teachers, parents, and children alike,” commented one nominator.

Her influence is especially evident as she works with ESL (English Second Language) students, bridging the language barrier at school. Going beyond daily support in the classroom, she becomes deeply involved with students and their families, offering financial assistance for food and school supplies. Her generosity extends to buying books and other necessities for the students. Outside of school she generously gives her time to help with homework, answer parental questions, and support families through challenging times. Over the years, Chard’s impact has reached numerous children and families during their most difficult moments. Her most Christ-like attribute is undoubtedly her consistent prioritization of others, even when it comes at inconvenient times.

Cindy McKee was the second “Heart of Our Hometown” winner. She has dedicated nearly two years to managing the Morgan County Food Pantry.  McKee spends countless hours ensuring the pantry is well-maintained, organized, and stocked to be able to offer a welcoming space for individuals and families in need to access essential supplies.

She also works diligently to help nearly 50 families during major holidays to make sure they have a meal to share with their families. McKee also plays a pivotal role in organizing Sub for Santa gifts.

“Cindy's dedication goes beyond the tangible aspects of her work. Without her selfless service, many families would face the prospect of going without, experiencing overwhelming stress, empty tummies, and a Christmas devoid of the magic that comes with gifts under the tree,” said one nominator.

Candice Noss. won the third “Heart of Our Hometown” award for embodying authenticity and goodness in all she does. Noss serves the community and schools as the Morgan High School freshman coach and organized the Jump Rope Club at Morgan Elementary School with her radiant smile, uplifting words, and unwavering optimism.

In addition to her involvement at school, Noss runs The Mind, Body, Spirit Trifecta, a business that spreads hope and light by empowering women to embrace their divinity and greatness. Her positive influence extends beyond Morgan County, touching the lives of countless women.

Her service-oriented nature is evident as she spends her summers leading humanitarian trips around the world. Recently, with the help of the Morgan County School District, she was able to set up a computer network in Kenya with donated Chromebooks.

“She is an incredible woman, wife, mother, business owner, and friend, deserving of every opportunity that comes her way,” commented a nominator.

Tiffany Ellis stands out as one of the most Christ-like individuals. For this she was the fourth recipient of the “Heart of Our Hometown” award.  “Her service is not only effortless but also stems from an inexhaustible well of compassion, consistently extended to those in need,” according to one nominator. “Taking on the challenging role of a foster mom, she displays a level of love and patience that is truly beyond many’s comprehension.”

For years, Ellis has quietly undertaken the significant responsibility of feeding the homeless in Ogden, a monumental task that she manages with humility, without seeking any public recognition. Recently Ellis has been helping refugee families where she generously involves the community in this impactful initiative.

Within the community, her positive influence leaves an impact on so many, from serving the youth in her church to the school’s PTSOs and Community Councils. Ellis imparts her knowledge by teaching nursing students at the high school level.

The fifth and final winner of the “Heart of Our Hometown” award is the owner of Hinds Country Store, Dalynn Patterson. Her family has invested immense effort in establishing the gas station in Peterson. Members young and old feel welcome at the store for food, drinks, and an array of activities organized by Patterson and her husband. From the highly anticipated annual pumpkin drop to the engaging golf ball race during the bridge closure and the festive appearance of Santa around the holidays. During the challenging times of the COVID-19 shutdown, Hinds sponsored a socially distanced scavenger hunt and the first “It’s Not Fair” Fair. The list of community activities orchestrated by Hinds goes on and on.

One nominator said, “Our family is genuinely grateful to have Hinds, under Dalynn and her family’s management, enriching our community. They are always willing to generously donate items for events and show support for community events. Their annual events, the day-to-day warmth, and the continuous support during community challenges make Hinds a beloved establishment for us. We wholeheartedly love Hinds!”

The "Heart of Our Hometown" awards owe their existence to the generosity of small local businesses in Morgan Valley. “Their contributions have made it possible to celebrate the individuals and businesses that enhance our community,” said organizer Jaime Weeter. “This offers an excellent opportunity for community members to learn more about these local establishments and show their support.”

Donors donated items and gift cards to a basket that was presented to each winner. Those businesses include The Fudge Lady, Sport Sparkle, Hinds Country Store,  Morganite Gems, Morgan Nutrition, TAMILEEBEAUTY, Twirl In Pink, and Contourcreative.us.

Olive Ave – Women’s Clothing Boutique is proud to be the originator and primary sponsor of this community event. “This event is not only a delightful way to unite the community during the holiday season but also an opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation for the everyday stars among us. It is a testament to the Christ-like values of love, kindness, and generosity that are embodied by the nominees and the local business donors that make these awards possible,” said Weeter. λ
